For our 7th anniversary, my wife and I spent two peaceful and relaxing nights at the Smith and England Guest House. We had been to Lunenburg many times before, but had never stayed overnight in the town. We selected the Guesthouse based on their website photos which gave a “retreat” kind of vibe and the privacy it offers as opposed to a multi-room hotel/motel. Clean, simple, modern, but with a hint of old world charm, this guesthouse is full of amenities. Unlike a hotel room, which is a simply a place to sleep for me, this place practically makes you beg for rain so you have an excuse to stay indoors all day! The hosts were very accommodating, friendly, knowledgable about the area and run one of the many unique shops that Lunenburg has to offer. Quite frankly, we want nothing more than to return as soon as possible and we intend to spend an entire week next August!

We loved Lunenburg, and Matthew and his partner were exemplary hosts. Their carriage house is simultaneously traditional and modern-minimal, with beautiful broad-plank floors and ceilings painted in sleek grays and whites. The location is just perfect: Lunenburg is completely walkable, and free parking is available nearby for excursions further afield. Our hosts were easily available for advice about restaurants and activities because they run a very nice shop right out front, but otherwise they gave us complete privacy. We hope to return to Lunenburg, and to stay at the Carriage House when we do.

The carriage house cold not have been more perfect for our stay. Adorable space, tonnes of room, good decor, very comfy bed and pillows, nice little yard, great coffee maker (and milk in the fridge!). I would hight recommend. Way better than a hotel. The host was super quick to respond to me, very accommodating no matter what came up. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. It even had a hair dryer!

The two-level suite was furnished with everything we needed to be comfortable during our stay: a comfy bed, lovely clean bathroom, plenty of space for our bags and hanging clothes, a living room to hang out in. The place includes a small fridge, cups, glasses, corkscrew, tableware and a coffeemaker – complete with coffee! The location in this quiet spot in the heart of the old town was perfect for our stay.

Our host was very helpful in p;refining information about restaurants and other facilities in Lunenburg. The carriage house is entirely private and separate from the host’s house and is spacious and well-maintained. We appreciated having a television in the suite as well as toaster, dishes and coffee. This location, right in the centre of Lunenburg and close to the harbour is excellent.

The place was just as promised in the photography. Spacious, beautiful, the perfect blend of character and modernism with a very central location that made it the perfect spot from which to wander through historic Lunenburg.

Generous hospitality. Worked perfectly for a tired couple who just wanted to relax. Easy walk to everything in Lunenburg. Clean and comfortable. Felt like staying at a good friend’s house, only better, because of the privacy. Recommend it and would stay again if we’re back.

On a recent trip out east to Nova Scotia, one of our friends suggested that we visit Lunenburg, a charming fishing village and stay at the Smith and England Guest House. We were welcomed by our friendly hosts to a lovely accommodation, with a private courtyard perfect for relaxing. The location is superb as it is right in the middle of Old-Town Lunenburg, within walking distance to the harbour port, restaurants, funky shops and sightseeing spots (Blue Nose II). The guest house is recently renovated with all the necessary amenities. Our hosts were knowledgeable and recommended great spots and trails for exploring. We will definitely stay there again.
